At East Bridge University, we believe that research is not just an academic requirement but rather a journey of clarity, courage, and intellectual discovery.
With these realities in mind, East Bridge University recently hosted an exclusive webinar for our doctorate scholars titled “From Research Idea to Publishable Study: Building Strong Research Questions & Methodology.” Led by Dr. Gargi Sen, Research Supervisor at EBU, the session brought together members of our research community across different regions to reflect on the foundations of good academic work.
The aim of the session was very straightforward. It was to create clarity around the early and often challenging stages of research design.
For many research candidates, the most demanding part of research is not the final writing, but the beginning. Moving from a broad interest to a clearly defined research problem requires focus and careful thinking. During the webinar, this transition was explored in detail. Scholars were guided through the process of refining topics, identifying research gaps, and developing questions that are precise, researchable, and aligned with their objectives.
The discussion then moved naturally into methodology. Rather than presenting research design as a checklist, the session emphasised understanding the reasoning behind methodological choices. Participants reflected on the difference between methods and methodology, the influence of research philosophy, and the importance of selecting qualitative, quantitative, or mixed approaches based on the nature of the inquiry itself.
The webinar also addressed the topic of research ethics. Integrity in research does not merely mean adherence to referencing guidelines, but is a responsibility toward participants, data, and the academic community. Issues such as informed consent, confidentiality, transparency in reporting, and academic honesty were framed as essential elements of credible scholarship.
In the session, Dr. Sen also talked about practical aspects of thesis development. Attention was given to structuring chapters effectively, distinguishing clearly between results and discussion, presenting data responsibly, and organising qualitative findings around coherent themes.
Throughout the session, the focus remained on building confidence through clarity. Often, research can feel complex, particularly in its early stages. But through structured reflection and guided discussion, the process can become more manageable and intellectually grounded.
For our wider academic community, this webinar reflects our ongoing effort to strengthen research foundations within our doctorate programs. Meaningful scholarship develops when ideas are examined carefully, methodologies are justified thoughtfully, and ethical principles are upheld consistently.
Research, at its core, is a disciplined form of inquiry. Our role is to support scholars as they navigate that discipline with structure, responsibility, and purpose.
