East Bridge University (EBU)

A Conversation on Student Leadership: Building Agency and Responsibility in Contemporary Learning Contexts

7th April 2026

On 18th April, 2026, East Bridge University (EBU) will be hosting a live webinar titled “Student Leadership: Developing Agency, Responsibility & Future-Ready Leaders”, exclusively for our student community.

At EBU, academic engagement is not only about formal coursework. It includes spaces where reflection, conversation and applied learning can intersect. This session on student leadership is designed to imbibe learners with an understanding of how to cultivate leadership qualities while they are in their academic journey. Led by Christopher Maitland, the webinar will give our students the opportunity to interact with ideas of personal accountability, decision-making, and meaningful leadership.

A Practitioner’s Perspective on Leadership Development

Christopher Maitland is an experienced educational leader with over a decade of experience across the UAE and UK. He is an Associate Director at East Bridge University for Education Leadership and Development.

Maitland is a certified NPQSL leader and has led school-wide initiatives in student leadership, wellbeing, behaviour systems, and staff development that have helped in strengthening learning environments and institutional culture. In his work with East Bridge Training (EBT), he has delivered KHDA-approved programmes, reflecting his commitment to educator development and student-centred practices.

In our student leadership session, Christopher Maitland will explore the concept of leadership as an evolving process that includes self-awareness, responsibility, and the ability to navigate complexities, rather than a fixed set of traits.

Extending Learning Through Dialogue and Research-Oriented Engagement

This webinar is a part of our ongoing efforts to provide our students with holistic support and guidance that extends beyond the programme curriculum. EBU’s webinars are designed to engage students and researchers in themes and topics that will help them to become competent professionals as well as excel in their academic journey.

Webinars, such as “From Research Idea to Publishable Study: Supporting Doctoral Scholars in Building Research Clarity” and “Right Topic, Right Sample, Right Access: Doctoral Research Planning”, have provided structured guidance to our research scholars navigating the complexities of their academic journey.

Scheduled across multiple time zones, 2:30 PM (UAE), 11:30 AM (France), 4:00 PM (India), and 6:30 PM (Singapore), this webinar on student leadership represents a complementary dimension, shifting the focus from research processes to personal and professional development, while maintaining the same emphasis on thoughtful engagement and applied understanding.

Continuity in Academic Engagement

All our webinar initiatives illustrate a sustained commitment to fostering an academic environment where learning is dynamic, reflective, and closely connected to real-world contexts. This upcoming webinar continues this trajectory, reflecting East Bridge University’s international academic community and its commitment to inclusive participation.

I had a great experience learning and pursuing Doctorate as I chose the subject that I am so much interested in. I enjoyed reading and learning from the course work. My mentor was throughout supporting and encouraging. I can't thank him enough for providing me the clarity for the research paper I submitted and for creating actionable goals for me.
